The Bago Small Schools 3-6 Birpai Buddies from Long Flat, Beechwood, Huntingdon and Comboyne Public Schools came together at Wauchope High School for another amazing visit!
Supported and mentored by Wauchope High School’s AEO Caitlin Miller and the Bago Small Schools AEO Toni Corrigan, our students had an unforgettable day packed with enriching cultural activities. From a serene river walk to engaging cultural games, sharing language and weaving with community member Patricia McInherny, the day was full of learning and connection. ✨
Our students explored the significance of Aboriginal structures along the river, dived deep into discussions, and learned about the importance of Aboriginal artworks. They practiced numbers and totems in the Gathang language during fun games and embraced the art of weaving with Trish, mastering patience and concentration. Despite the challenges, everyone left with a beautiful creation and a new skill!
It’s truly heart-warming to see our students growing more confident in the high school environment and building lasting connections with their peers from other schools. It was a wonderful day, and we look forward to more days like this throughout our Birpai Buddies program.
Our Birpai Buddies connect at Wauchope High School in Week 6 of each term, collaborate during NAIDOC celebrations and spend a day together on country in Term 4.
